The Harmonistic Syllabus of the Gospels

 

The Narrations

I.    The Particular Narrations in the Book of John:

1.    The brief introduction of the word (1:1-5, 9-14, 16-18)

2.    John the Baptist bore witness of Christ (1:6-8, 15, 19-28)

3.    John the Baptist pointed Christ to others (1:29-36).

4.    Two disciples of John the Baptist followed Jesus (1:37-39).

5.    Simon Peter was called (1:40-42).

6.    Philip and Nathanael were called (1:43-51).

7.    Jesus and his mother and his brothers and his disciples; and they did not stay there many days (2:12).

8.    Jesus cleaned the Holy Temple for the first time (2:13-17).

9.    Jesus did not commit Himself to them (2:23-25).

10. Jesus and John the Baptist were baptizing in different place (3:22-26).

11. He must increase, but I must decrease (3:27-30).

12. Jesus preached the glad tidings to the woman of Samaria (4:1-26).

13. That woman went to the city to bear witness to all the people (4:27-30).

20. Peter said that the Lord had the words of eternal life (6:67-69).

21. Jesus said Judas was a devil (6:70-71).

22. The brothers of Jesus in the flesh advised Him to go to Jerusalem, and seek to be known openly (7:1-9).

23. Jesus went to Jerusalem to have the feast of tabernacles in secret (7:10-13).

24. Jesus went to the temple to teach men in the feast, and the response of them (7:14-36).

25. Jesus called in the last day of the feast and the response of all the people (7:37-52).

26. Jesus forgave the woman taken in adultery (8:1-11).

27. Jesus taught men in the treasury and declared His testimony (8:13-30).

28. The Pharisees interrogated the blind man who was healed by the Lord and his parents (9:13-34).

29. Jesus took the blind man who was cast off (9:35-41).

30. The Jews disputed about the parable of Jesus concerning the fold of the sheep (10:19-21).

31. Jesus was interrogated by the Jews in the feast of the dedication (10:22-24).

32. The Jews took up stones to stone him for Jesus called God the Father (10:30-39).

33. Many people believed on Jesus beyond the Jordan (10:40-42).

34. The chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees took counsel that they might kill Jesus (11:45-53).

35. Jesus went to the city Ephraim and tarried with the disciples there (11:54).

36. The Jews sought for Jesus before the Feast of the Passover (11:55-57).

37. The chief priests took counsel that they might kill Lazarus also (12:9-11).

38. There were certain Greeks who desired to see Jesus (12:20-22).

47. The legs of Jesus were not broken and his side was pierced with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water (19:31-37).

48. Mary Magdalene did not see the body of the Lord, so she run and came to see the disciples (20:2).

49. Peter and John came to see the tomb (20:3-10).

50. Thomas did not believe the resurrection of Jesus (20:24-25).

II.   The Harmonistic Syllabuses of the Gospels:

1.  Mary anointed the Lord with ointment (12:1-8; Matt 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9).

2.  Jesus went to Jerusalem, sitting upon a young ass (12:12-15; Matt 21:1-9; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-38).

3.  Jesus was caught in the garden of Gethsemane (18:1-12; Matt26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; Luke 22:47-53).

4.  Peter thrice denied the Lord (18:15-18, 25-27; Matt 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; Luke 22:55-62).

5.  Jesus was judged by the high priest Caiaphas (18:19-24; Matt 26:59-68; Mark 14:55-56; Luke 22:63-71).

6.  Jesus was judged by the governor Pilate (18:28-38; Matt 27:1-2, 11-14; Mark 15:1-5; Luke 23:1-7).

7.  Jesus was rejected by the Jews (18:39-40; Matt 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; Luke 23:13-21).

8. Jesus was mocked by the soldiers (19:1-3; Matt 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20).

9. Jesus was rejected by the Jews again (19:4-12; Luke 23:22-23).

10. Jesus was condemned by Pilate (19:13-15; Luke 23:24).

11. Jesus was delivered to men to be crucified (19:16-18; Matt 27:26, 33; Mark 15:15, 22; Luke 23:25, 33).

12. The title that Pilate wrote on the cross of Jesus (19:19-22; Matt 27:37; Mark 15:26; Luke 23:38).

The Signs that Jesus Had Done

I.      Signs Which Were Particularly Recorded in the Book of John:

1.    He turned water to wine in Cana of Galilee (2:1-11).

2.    He healed the son of the noble man (4:46-54).

3.    He healed the man who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years beside the pool, which was called Bethesda (5:1-9).

4.    He healed the man who was blind from birth (9:1-12).

5.    He made Lazarus rise from death (11:1-44).

6.    The Apostle Peter and other disciples caught 153 fishes in the sea of Tiberias (21:1-14).

II.    The Harmonistic Syllabuses of the Gospels:

1.    He changed the bread to feed five thousand men, and left twelve baskets with the fragments (6:1-13; Matt 14:13-21; Mark 6:32-44; Luke 9:10-17).

2.    He walked on the sea (6:16-21; Matt 14:22-33; Mark 6:45-51).

 

The Teachings of Jesus

I.    The Particular Teachings of Jesus in the Book of John:

1.    Jesus talked about the rebirth with Nicodemus (3:1-15).

2.    He who believes is saved, but he who does not believe is judged (3:16-18).

3.    Every one that does evil hates the light, but he who practices the truth comes to the light (3:19-21).

4.    He that believes on the Son has life eternal, and he that is not subject to the Son shall not see life (3:31-36).

5.    He who drinks the water granted by the Lord will never thirst (4:13-14).

6.    One should worship the Father in spirit and truth (4:21-24).

7.    The bread of the Lord is keeping the will of God (4:31-34).

8.    Both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together (4:35-38).

9.    The Father has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father (5:19-30).

10. The four witnesses of the Son (5:31-47).

11. Work the food which abides to life eternal (6:26-27).

12. This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He sent (6:28-29).

13. I am the true bread of life from heaven (6:30-59).

14. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life (6:63).

15. He who believes in the Lord, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water (7:37-39).

16. The Lord is the light of the world (8:12).

17. Unless one shall believe Christ, he shall die in his sins (8:24).

18. Concerning the true liberty (8:31-36).

19. Concerning the true children of Abraham (8:37-41).

20. Concerning the devil who is the father of all those who do not believe (8:42-59).

21. The Lord’s sheep shall never perish (10:25-29).

22. The Lord and the Father are one (10:30).

23. If the grain of wheat dies, it will bear much fruit (12:23-29).

24. If I be lifted up out of the earth, will draw all to Me (12:30-36).

25. He who believes the Son believes the Father (12:44-50).

26. He encouraged the disciples to wash feet for one another (13:12-17).

27. He gave the new commandment of loving one another (13:31-35).

28. His departure was to prepare places for His disciples (14:1-3).

29. The Lord is the way, the truth and the life (14:4-6).

30. Believers will do greater works than the Lord (14:7-15).

31. He promised to give another Comforter, namely, the spirit of the truth (14:16-20).

32. He who loves the Lord shall keep the word of the Lord (14:21-24).

33. The Spirit shall teach the disciples all things (14:25-31).

34. We should love one another in the love of the Lord (15:9-17).

35. The world hates the Lord, and will hate the disciples (15:18-27).

36. The religion kills the Lord Jesus, even regarding it as serving God (16:1-4).

37. If the Lord does not go away, the Comforter will not come (16:5-7).

38. The work of the Holy Spirit in the negative aspect ---- to bring demonstration to men (16:8-11).

39. The work of the Holy Spirit in the positive aspect ---- to guide us into the truth (16:12-13).

40. The purpose of the work of the Spirit ----to glorify Christ (16:14-15).

41. The disciples will never see His physical body, but will see His spiritual body (16:16-19).

42. It likes a woman who gives birth to a child ---- she has sorrow first, but obtains joy afterwards (16:20-22).

43. We shall ask the Father in my name, he will give us (16:23-26).

44. He who believes that the Lord comes out from God will go to the Father, so is the beloved by the Father (16:27-32).

45. There is peace in the Lord, for He has overcome the world (16:33).

The Prophecies of Jesus

I.   The Particular Prophecies of Jesus in the Book of John:

1. He told John that Judas would betray Him (13:18-30).

2. He foretold that Peter would martyr for Him (21:18-23).

 

II.  The Harmonistic Syllabus of the Gospels::

1.    He foretold that Peter would thrice deny Him (13:36-38; Matt 26:33-35; Mark 14:29-31; Luke 22:33-34).

 

The Parables of Jesus

I.    The Particular Parables of Jesus in the Book of John:

1.    The Parable of Jesus that He took His body as the Temple (2:18-22)

2.    The Parable of the fold of the sheep (10:1-8)

3.    The parable of the true vine (15:1-8)
