¡iKJV¡jAnd spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
¡iNIV¡jTell us by what authority you are doing these things," they said. "Who gave you this authority?"
¡iBBE¡jThat the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people came to him and said, Make clear to us by what authority you do these things and who gave you this authority.

¡iNIV¡jAt harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
¡iBBE¡jAnd at the right time he sent a servant to the workers to get part of the fruit from the vines; but the workmen gave him blows and sent him away with nothing.

¡iKJV¡jBut when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
¡iNIV¡jBut when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. `This is the heir,' they said. `Let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
¡iBBE¡jBut when the workmen saw him, they said to one another, This is he who will one day be the owner of the property: let us put him to death and the heritage will be ours.
¡iASV¡jBut when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

¡iKJV¡jHe shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
¡iNIV¡jHe will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others." When the people heard this, they said, "May this never be!"
¡iBBE¡jHe will come and put them to destruction and give the garden to others. And when he said this, they said, May it not be so.
¡iASV¡jHe will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

¡iKJV¡jSaying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
¡iNIV¡jTeacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother.
¡iBBE¡jMaster, Moses said that if a man's brother comes to his end, having a wife, but no children, his brother is to take the wife, and get a family for his brother.
¡iASV¡jand they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man's brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

¡iNIV¡jBut in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord `the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'
¡iBBE¡jBut even Moses made it clear that the dead come back to life, saying, in the story of the burning thorn-tree, The Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
